News And Photo Update

Here are some photos of Toby and one of the lovely cake my mum made for us! Toby has been home for a few day now and we are really enjoying having him around, even if it does mean less sleep. My mum and dad have been up for the day and this afternoon we all went out to Heaton Park, this was his first trip out apart from church yesterday and some shopping, he really enjoyed having a ride in his cot.

Toby Is Home!

Toby had tests for his thyroid today and it turned out that it seems completely fine which means that we have been able to bring Toby home with us. We are so happy that after 12 weeks he is finally home with us. Thank you all so much for all your support at this very difficult time for us, it has made all the difference. We will do a fuller update tomorrow and also add some new pics.

God Bless

Nightmare

Yesterday we had a particularly difficult day. We were told the day before that we would be able to take Toby home on Thursday so we had our bags packed but the doctors changed their mind at the last minute because some more test results had come back. We were absolutely gutted and extremely upset. It seems that Toby has a under-active thyroid, this is something that can be treated but in the short term it means more tests for Toby and him being in hospital for another week. In the long term it looks like Toby will have to take medication for the rest of his life. It also did not help that we were misinformed the day before about these results and were told he did not have a problem with his thyroid.

P.S. Thanks to all the staff at North Manchester for your card it was very kind and good to know you are keeping up with Toby's news. We will pop in and see you when we finally get Toby home!

Doing Much Better

To cut a very long story short (which we will elaborate on sometime) Toby is doing much better and we are hoping to get him home by the end of the week. He is a cute as always and has a lovely personality. We can't wait to have him home with us as he will be 12 weeks old by the weekend. Thanks for all your prayer and support it has helped us through these extremely difficult times.

More Tests

Sorry we have not posted any updates in the last few days. Catherine has been rooming in at the hospital with Toby since Monday so that Toby has an opportunity to feed from her. It has been a rocky road and Toby is still being topped up by tube feeds at the moment. His medical condition seems to be stable however we are still waiting for tests to come back regarding his jaundice. They think this might rectify itself over time but they want to check is the is any other condition. We were hoping to get him home this week but it looks more likely that it might be the end of next week at the earliest.

A Better Week

Toby has steadily improved over the last few days. He has got rid of his fungal infection and stopped his anti fungal drugs. This is a lot sooner than we at first feared. He is trying to breast feed and is improving each day. We are waiting to see when we can get his central line taken out as it is still a risk of infection. Obviously they don't want to remove it if they may need to use it so we are waiting for a doctors decision. Catherine will be staying at the hospital next week to try and get him to breast feed at night. Hopefully she wont be there too long! Toby's liver is still not so good and we are waiting for some test results. The doctors do not seem to be overly concerned so hopefully all will be well. Thank you to everyone who has been praying for us. We have had some wonderful nurses looking after us both at North Manchester and St Mary's. God has blessed us in many ways although it has been a very tough time. Toby gets more alert each day and seems to want to eat continuously! He also doesn't like being put down and would rather be cuddled. He has certainly already got us wrapped round his very small fingers already! We hope you like the photos, here Toby is conducting is first concert.

A Better Day

Today we have got much better news about Toby. Firstly to seems as if his fungal infection has cleared up, the doctors will do some more tests later in the week but he seems to be over that one for now. Secondly Toby's liver also seems to be getting slowly better, again they will continue to keep an eye on his SBR levels for jaundice. We do really hope he is over the worst of it now however we have been at this stage before and it is hard to get too excited as we don't want to be disappointed again. We do believe Toby is getting better and we long to have him home with us soon.

Videos Of Toby

Toby seems to have done well to get over his latest bacterial infection and seems to be doing well. He did have a scan of his liver on Thursday and Friday (all day both days!) which was a bit inconclusive however they do seem to think that it is probably normal although he still does have prolonged jaundice but is seems to be getting slightly better. They will make a decision next week on whether they need to repeat it. As far as his fungal infection goes we are waiting on some results from a test done on Friday to see if he still has it. As you can see from the latest video Toby is taking all the latest setbacks in his stride.
